I founded a nice article about Clemensstrasse. Is there any prostitution areas or redlight districts in Lubeck anymore? The Clemensstrasse war formerly the red-light district of Lübeck. The last etablissement close as late as about 2000, after in the 1990s one brothel after another went out of business. Other that Hamburgs Reeperbahn, the much smaller and not so tourists attractive Clemensstrasse did not survive. As for now, most of houses there are derelict. The "Blauer Engel" pub seen in the image is legendary for Lübeck, so there is no commercial character here. This ist the pub the action of the film "The Blue Engel" (Germany 1930) took place. The screenplay was based on Heinrich Mann's novel "Professor Unrat". The film brought world fame to actress Marlene Dietrich. It is also considered to be the firts succesful German sound film.
