Police spokesman Lt. Jeff Miller says police set up a prostitution sting after complaints from management at Westown Parkway Residences about the amount of traffic at one of their rooms. Miller says in a news release on Wednesday that an investigation found that a woman was using the room and advertising her services on an online dating service. Police set up the sting, which led to the arrest of 13 men over a five-day period from Feb. 16 to Feb. 24. The men were released on a citation to appear in court later. A former state official and an attorney for an Iowa counties association are among 13 men arrested in a prostitution sting in West Des Moines. Gov. Chet Culver's spokesman Phil Roeder says Armando Villareal, the former head of the state's Division of Latino Affairs, was arrested Feb. 18. David Vestal, general counsel for the Iowa State Association of Counties, was arrested Feb. 16. Executive Director Bill Peterson says Vestal has been placed on leave pending an evaluation of the situation. A telephone number for Villareal is disconnected.
