After a Canadian lawmaker was arrested in a prostitution sting in St. Paul, Minneapolis police picked up the baton by conducting a sting of their own as part of a series of sweeps conducted nationwide.

Yet, it was far from smooth sailing. Eventually, the johns and prostitutes started to fight back.

At lunch time, Lake Street is one of the most diverse and vibrant arteries in the city of lakes, and the oldest profession is alive and well there.

On Wednesday, the women wearing the tight shorts were actually undercover cops who walked the walk and talked the talk. When they used the code word "condom," police would move in. They arrested one suspected john after another.

It's surprising how quickly the whole sting goes down. By the time police move in and cuff a suspect, only about 2 minutes have passed -- but anyone who thinks the activity would freak out the johns and stop keep them from coming back should think again.

"It's 24 hours a day," said Lt. Dan May.

May said he believes the john sweep will make a difference in the short term, but he knows business keeps operating around the clock.

"We started as early as six in the morning and make multiple arrests," he said.

In six days, the Minneapolis Police Department arrested 53 johns -- including two registered sex offenders. Officers also seized 23 vehicles for forfeiture.

But the johns are fighting back online. They blew the cover on the Minneapolis sting and even posted pictures of the undercover cops. Meanwhile, the actual prostitutes weren't too happy someone else took over their turf. Two were arrested on obstruction charges.

"They became territorial," May said. Source myfoxorlando.com
