One Night In Kamathipura

"India’s most famous red light district has withstood much in its lifetime. First, the sailors—the first patrons of Kamathipura, for whom it was set up during British times—went. Then came the onslaught of HIV AIDS, and with it the sudden drop in business.

But Kamathipura hung on, and on its 40 acres, pimps and prostitutes still roamed. In the evenings, the cages would be lit and the madams would sit outside and claim that this is where the desires of the city found release; they were the keepers of its sanity and suffered so others were healed.

Most of the madams have now moved back to their villages, or shifted to the suburbs. What AIDS couldn’t do, a real estate boom is doing. Kamathipura sits on prime land on Grant Road, close to south Mumbai, and land here has become too precious to be a red light area. For years, builders have been trying to find ways to throw the prostitutes out, and they are finally succeeding. Its inhabitants are being lured with offers increasingly hard to resist. It is inevitable that the area will soon be redeveloped, and then it will be hard to believe that Kamathipura ever existed. Pravin Patkar, who has been working with women in the red light district since 1986 and runs an NGO called Prerana, says in the 1960s, at least 100,000 sex workers lived and worked here. Now, only 20 per cent remain." -- Chinki Sinha, OPEN Magazine

How much prostitute cost in Mumbai Kamathipura red light district?

Sex price rate in Kamathipura red light varies a lot. Daytime is cheaper and sex costs only 100-150 rupees at day time (this is $1.60 to $2.40). Very cheap! Less than a big mac with a 2 for 1 coupon!
Night time sex will cost more and some best looking prostitutes can ask very high fees (in Indian standards), such as 1000 rupees ($16). But price will always go down if you negotiate or just pretend you are not interested.

Guest el india police scams

Well. Anywhere in India, if cops get the chance to harass or scam you, they will do it. So just be aware of the cops and do not let them fuck you over

This is why billionaires are always ready to invest in India because its the country where even Law and Order can be bought, provided you are ready to pay the right amount. So the whole game is trying to know the "right amount of everyone". This can be developed by reading magazines or reading blogs on legal action and its very important. For example, if you are caught driving without helmet and you are paying a bribe of Rs 200 then you are a fool. As per law, fine is only of Rs 100.

First cops usually try to probe where do you work or who are you ?

The moment you say you are software engineer, you are f*ked. Never say it. For them, software engineers are money minting class.

Best answer is to say you are a lawyer or journalist and yes know some basic IPC codes.

The moment they interact, you must ask under which Penal code you are asking me. So for the Police who stopped you or your vehicle, you should have asked who the hell are you?

Streets patrolling is only done by constables. If they would have asked to take you to police station, you should have readily accepted to go there. There is no law under which they can arrest you unless there is a complainant. Third option, pay him Rs 200, the standard rate of police constable. 500-1000 is the rate of SHO here. You can even go 2 steps ahead of it and have bribed a session court judge for Rs 500, for drink and driving case, that's the rate of judge here.
Money can literally buy anything in this country.  Also when a case is stuck in the court or in case of any FIR you can always file a counter FIR. For police case you can anytime report it to Human Rights Commission. To save a constable, your area SP wouldn't be writing sorry letter to Hunan Rights commission.

Even SP's rate is fixed. Many people I know who have been falsely charged under 398A(A case of dowry and its unbailable offence. Often used by women to harass their husband.) They pay right amount and got this charge dropped from the charge-sheet files by police.

Well. I do not think police tries to arrest locals, but they try to scam tourists and other people who do not know any rules. But if you are a white middle aged guy from Europe or USA, I am pretty darn sure you would get scammed by cops in India. Maybe they could say that because you are in a brothel, it is illegal or so on.
